Year-End Holiday Travel Increases Across Indonesia

In December 2025, year-end holiday travel increased significantly across various regions in Indonesia. The rise in mobility was driven by school holidays, Christmas celebrations, and the New Year break. Many people took advantage of this period to return to their hometowns, visit tourist destinations, or spend quality time with family members.

Transportation hubs such as airports, train stations, ports, and toll roads recorded higher passenger volumes compared to regular days. Popular routes connecting major cities and tourist areas experienced increased traffic, especially in the days leading up to the New Year. Tourist destinations such as beaches, mountain resorts, and city attractions also saw a surge in domestic visitors.

To manage the increased movement of people, authorities implemented various measures, including traffic engineering, additional transportation schedules, and enhanced safety monitoring. Transportation operators added extra trips and services to accommodate the growing number of passengers, while security personnel were deployed to maintain order and safety during the busy holiday season.

Overall, the rise in year-end holiday travel in December 2025 reflected the public’s enthusiasm for leisure and family activities. Despite higher traffic density, the holiday atmosphere contributed to a vibrant end-of-year mood across Indonesia as people prepared to welcome the new year.

Indonesia Cancels New Year Fireworks After Sumatra Floods

In December 2025, Indonesia experienced one of the most severe natural disasters to hit the island of Sumatra. Extremely heavy rainfall over several consecutive days triggered massive floods and landslides across multiple provinces. The disaster submerged and destroyed thousands of homes, disrupted critical infrastructure, and forced hundreds of thousands of residents to evacuate to safer areas.

In addition to extensive material damage, the disaster resulted in a significant loss of life. Evacuation and rescue efforts were carried out by joint teams consisting of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police, and volunteers. Emergency assistance such as food supplies, clean water, medicines, and shelter equipment was continuously distributed to affected areas. However, extreme weather conditions and difficult terrain posed serious challenges to rescue operations and aid distribution.

As a sign of national mourning and solidarity with the victims, the Indonesian government decided to cancel New Year’s Eve fireworks celebrations for 2026. This decision was made to honor those who lost their lives and to show respect to families affected by the disaster, while also encouraging the public to focus on humanitarian efforts rather than celebrations.

According to Reuters, “Indonesia cancelled New Year fireworks as the country mourned victims of devastating floods and landslides in Sumatra.” This policy reflected the government’s commitment to prioritizing compassion and humanity during a time of national emergency.

The floods and landslides also served as a serious reminder of the increasing risk of hydrometeorological disasters in Indonesia, particularly during the rainy season. Both the government and the public are expected to improve disaster preparedness, strengthen early warning systems, and enhance environmental protection efforts to reduce the impact of similar disasters in the future.

The result reflected Indonesia’s consistency and competitiveness against other Southeast Asian countries.

Throughout the competition, Indonesian athletes contributed medals from multiple disciplines, helping the country secure a high position in the overall standings. The performance was considered to have exceeded initial expectations and demonstrated positive progress in Indonesia’s sports development.

Although Indonesia was unable to surpass host nation Thailand, which claimed the overall championship, the second-place finish was widely regarded as a significant accomplishment and a morale boost for national sports ahead of future international competitions.

Ikhtifal as a Meaningful Moment in Building Students’ Character

By: Tarum Ningsih

Ikhtifal is not merely a ceremonial event held at the end of an academic period. More than that, it plays an important role in shaping students’ character and strengthening their moral and spiritual values, especially at the elementary school level.

Through Ikhtifal, students learn the value of appreciation for effort and discipline. The event recognizes not only academic success, but also achievements in religious learning and good behavior. This helps students understand that success is not measured only by grades, but also by character and attitude.

In addition, Ikhtifal creates a strong connection between schools, teachers, students, and parents. When parents witness their children’s performances and achievements, they feel more involved in the educational process. This sense of togetherness encourages cooperation in guiding students both at school and at home.

From an educational perspective, Ikhtifal is also an effective way to build students’ confidence. Standing on stage, performing, or receiving awards helps students overcome fear and develop self-esteem. These experiences are valuable for their future learning journey.

In conclusion, Ikhtifal should be maintained as an important educational tradition. When organized with sincerity and clear educational values, Ikhtifal becomes more than a celebration—it becomes a meaningful moment in shaping responsible, confident, and morally grounded students.

Building a Healthy Daily Routine

Modern life often feels fast and overwhelming. Between work, study, and personal responsibilities, many people struggle to maintain a balanced lifestyle. Building a healthy daily routine can help improve both physical and mental well-being without feeling pressured.

A healthy lifestyle does not require drastic changes. Simple habits like waking up at a consistent time, eating regular meals, and getting enough rest already make a big difference. Starting the day with a short morning routine — such as stretching, journaling, or planning the day — helps create a positive mindset.

Managing screen time is also an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Taking short breaks from phones or laptops allows the mind to rest and reduces mental fatigue. Spending time on light physical activities, such as walking or simple exercises, can boost energy and focus throughout the day.

At the end of the day, having a calming night routine helps the body relax and prepares the mind for better sleep. Small actions done consistently can slowly shape a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.

Learning in the Age of Distraction

Notifications buzz. Screens light up. Fingers scroll almost automatically. For today’s students, learning no longer happens in quiet classrooms alone it happens in a world full of constant distractions.

In the age of TikTok, Instagram, and endless notifications, focus has become one of the hardest skills to master. Many students admit that even while studying, their phones are never truly out of reach. A “five-minute break” often turns into thirty minutes of scrolling, leaving guilt and unfinished tasks behind.

“I want to focus, but my phone always wins,” said one student. This simple sentence reflects a shared reality among many learners today. Distraction is no longer an exception; it is part of daily life.

Online learning and digital tools were meant to make education easier. In many ways, they do. Information is faster to access, assignments are easier to submit, and learning resources are everywhere. However, the same devices that help students learn also compete for their attention. Entertainment is always just one tap away.

This constant exposure affects more than productivity. Many students feel mentally exhausted, even without heavy physical activity. Switching between studying, chatting, watching videos, and checking social media creates a sense of overload. The brain rarely gets a moment to rest.

Yet, students are not giving up. Some try to manage distractions by setting screen-time limits, studying with friends, or creating phone-free study zones. Others choose to study late at night, when notifications finally slow down. These small strategies show how students are adapting, not avoiding, the digital world.

Learning in the age of distraction is not about rejecting technology. It is about learning how to live with it wisely. Focus has become a form of discipline, and silence has become a luxury.

In a world that never stops scrolling, choosing to focus even for a moment has become an act of effort, awareness, and growth.
